
Mr Simon Lau
Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr Simon Lau is a Melbourne-based Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Simon specialises in shoulder joint replacement using 3D templating software and patient-specific instrumentation, arthroscopic (keyhole) sports surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist including rotate cuff repair, as well as surgery for trauma and fractures in adults and children.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Simon attended the University of Melbourne. After graduating medicine, Simon’s junior medical years were spent at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he focused on the management of traumatic injuries. Simon then gained a Masters of Trauma Sciences with Honours through the University of London. From there, Simon earned a position on the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s Victorian training program and rotated throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria as an accredited registrar.
As a surgeon, Simon has undertaken sub-speciality upper limb training. He completed an upper limb fellowship with Professor Richard Page in Shoulder, Elbow and Wrist surgery in Geelong. From there, he travelled to Zurich, Switzerland, to work as a fellow under Professors Christian Gerber and Karl Wieser at the Universitätsklinik Balgrist – a world-class centre that has been at the forefront of shoulder surgery for the past 30 years.
Simon maintains a public practice at Peninsula Health and is a supervisor of training orthopaedic registrars. He has a strong academic record and has published multiple peer-reviewed articles on a variety of traumatic and upper limb topics.
Outside of work, he enjoys swimming, tennis and running – whether it be for fitness or chasing after his three young children.
