Mr Keith Winters

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Keith Winters is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon based in the Melbourne Bayside and Peninsula area with a specific expertise in lower limb surgery.

He graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 1997 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons after completing his specialist training in 2008. Keith undertook a further two years of post-graduate fellowship training in Lower Limb surgery at the North Sydney Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre and at Royal Bournemouth & Poole Hospitals in the UK, as well as a lower limb arthroplasty and trauma fellowship at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Keith worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Royal Surrey County Hospital in the UK for 18 months before joining both public and private posts in the Bayside and Peninsula area in Melbourne, which he has been serving since 2012.

Having had extensive experience in plastics, Keith has become well-known for his small incisions and exceptionally neat closures, using only dissolving stitches. Keith’s hip replacements are performed using a minimally invasive technique, leaving most patients with only a 10cm scar and a quick recovery.

Keith is currently one of only two surgeons in the Peninsula area fully trained in Stryker’s ASM system and performing knee replacements using highly accurate computer navigation.

Keith has formed Melbourne Orthopaedic Specialists and with a triage system in place involving an on–site physiotherapist and podiatrist, Keith is able to prioritise those patients in more urgent need of a surgical opinion.

Keith performs minimally invasive surgery of the foot and ankle when appropriate, which improves cosmesis and accelerates recovery.

Keith welcomes queries from doctors regarding the management of their patients. He is available to review radiology images in order to advise whether a patient would best suit a referral to a surgeon, physiotherapist or alternative management
